Did you know that
Dog Training is an
unregulated industry?
Thus, there is no special license,
certification or training required!
This is a rude awakening for pet owners
who assume this already exists.
To support an ordinance that will provide
oversight of dog training facilities
Meet Sarge the puppy
and hear his story
Sarge came from a family with two brothers, Seth and Spencer.
On April 3, 2015 – I went to Ocala to adopt one of three brothers. I met the foster mom at a vet’s office, and we went outside to a small enclosed grass area. I texted a video of the 3 puppies playing – my husband said – ‘OMG! you’re not bringing all three home are you!’
Sarge was the first to come over to me, and he propped himself up on my shoe. He just hung around with me, so I told the foster mom that Sarge was the first to come up to me, so he is the one. She laughed and said Sarge was the first to do everything. And said he was probably the first one to be born.
Sarge was also the first to die – after harsh training techniques used on him. He was just 8 pounds, and was only 3 1/2 months old. Watch his video above.
Dog Training Ordinance Updates
TBD
Ordinance will be presented to Board of County Commissioners
January 19, 2017
Hillsborough County’s Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to move forward with Oversight of Dog Training Facilities
Who We Are
We are a non-partisan independent group volunteering our time to show support for Hillsborough County’s groundbreaking initiative of Oversight for Dog Training Facilities.
Currently, they do not have to have a special license, certification, or any training. As a result, how do you choose a dog trainer?
- You could ask questions about the methodology used, any certifications, and who helps with training.
- You could call your local Animal Services to inquire about complaints.
- You could tour the facility.
Please, do all of the above.
Still, if there are not guidelines or standards set, how can you trust in the quality and knowledge of a dog trainer?
Please ask your commissioners:
Vote YES for Oversight of Dog Training
Thank your commissioners for taking up such an important issue
